Des Moines, IA -- New Frontier Action Fund’s Director of Partnerships, the Rev. Rob Johnson, released the following statement following his reception of the West Des Moines, IA “Martin Luther King Jr. Community Leadership Award”:

Our country was built on principles of freedom, opportunity, and common purpose. But now, we are finding that unemployment, lack of access to quality education, and withering infrastructure are destroying our country from within - and feeding the beast of white supremacy and hate.

As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “I think America must see that riots do not develop out of thin air. Certain conditions continue to exist in our society which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots.”

Moving forward we must confront and prosecute hateful acts of violence, and we must condemn and quash hate speech and white supremacy. But we must not forget, this strategy of division and stoking of distrust was what Donald Trump, and those like him, have used to rise to power. They find power in dividing us.

We won’t let that happen. We are vigilant and standing watch.

New Frontier Action Fund is a 501c4 social welfare organization formed in July 2020 to advocate for policy that confronts poverty, creates economic opportunity, and confronts racial & social injustice. The organization held the first of twenty-five community town halls with Mayor Quentin Hart of Waterloo this past week. For more information, visit newfrontieraction.com.
